HELLO. i have the final for my summer class (federal rules of evidence, SO EXCITING) in six days, and i have to learn about a billion rules between now and then, which is okay but kind of brainsucking. 12. accidental-baby-acquisition Oh man. Illinois has a safe harbor law that allows surrendering newborns at police stations, so of course they find a tiny infant swaddled in a pink sweatshirt outside the precinct. "You can't keep the baby, Ray," are the first words out of Fraser's mouth, and Ray draws away from him, glaring, cradling the baby closer to his chest.

"Shut up, you're gonna wake her up, you moron," Ray hisses, and the next seventy-two hours are a whirlwind of paperwork, the hospital, doctors, paperwork, while Ray refuses to be separated from the baby and Fraser hovers nearby, rubbing his eyebrow. Someone from family services eventually appears in the hospital, while Ray is pacing back and forth, gently bouncing the baby to sleep again. Fraser intercepts the woman, guides her back into the hallway with a gentle hand on her elbow, tries to radiate charming politeness and responsibility, ends up with another stack of forms and a court date for the next Monday.

When he comes back in, Ray's sitting on the edge of the hospital bed, dangling feet swinging a little, staring enraptured down at the bundle in his arms. He looks up at Fraser, smiles, and god, Fraser loves him, too much to do anything but smile back and sit down beside him, and say, very quietly, "I don't know if they'll let you keep her, but you should sure as hell try."

14. telepathy Duncs and Seabs have been telepathically bonded for years and years, ever since Seabs had said - "So I knew this guy who said he could - like - him and his D partner did this thing and then they could hear each other's thoughts?" and it involved a weird-ass ritual with setting shit on fire and mystical knives and ritual bloodletting but Duncs is a weirdo who would do that shit for fun anyway. So they went out in Brent's backyard and each wrote down something they had never told anyone, dropped it in a pot, walked around it counterclockwise, cut each other's left palms and let the blood drip onto the paper, added the dirt from their hometowns (that was a little weird to ask their parents to ship, but Brent had made something up about a new superstition, and Duncs' parents gave up on questions a long time ago), poured the lighter fluid on it, simultaneously lit matches - the hardest part to sync up, but they got it on the fourth try - and threw them in with a satisfying whoosh of flames.

Then came the weird part (lol, the weird part), where they had to stare into each other's eyes until the fire went out, and Brent started to feel awkward and stupid and wanted to look away, but Duncs was committed, hardly even blinking, and fuck if Brent was going to lose a stupid staring contest. Plus Duncs' eyes looked kind of cool in the dark with the fire reflected in them, and then Brent blinked and had this sudden feeling of his lungs expanding, like he'd just gotten a good whiff of smelling salts, and also he knew that Duncs secretly wanted to take ballet as a kid and was still pissed off that he didn't get to, and he doubled over laughing. Duncs tackled him, yelling, "Hey, you don't get to laugh at mine, asshole, yours is pretty fucking stupid too," but Brent was thinking of Duncs in pink tights and a tutu and it was seriously the most amazing mental image, and Duncs started laughing too, and said, "Okay, that's pretty good," and Brent realized Duncs could see that and holy shit, it worked? it worked! And they spent hours laying in the grass, staring up at the few stars making it through Chicago's light pollution, occasionally cracking each other up without saying anything at all, and it is still one of the best nights of Brent's life, up there with winning the Cup or getting married.

Aaaaaaahhhhh they are the best adorable brutal telepathically bonded D-pair. I love that a magic ritual to read each others minds is a perfectly reasonable thing that they would do, even in a verse where they are married to other people.

i ALSO really want the inverted trope version, in a soulbonds-are-known verse where it's customary for compatible D pairs to bond, and Duncs and Seabs totally love each other like brothers and are bros for life and live down the street from each other and always room together and are freakishly in sync (AKA HOW THEY ALWAYS ARE, I DIE). everyone ~just assumes~ they're soulbonded, but it's rude to explicitly ask, and duncs gives appropriately savvy/coy answers to the insinuating questions from reporters, so sport journalists just refer to them as "bonded D pair Keith and Seabrook," and kaner calls them "those freaky braintwins," and frankly, the assumption that they're bonded is probably why Seabs gets invited to the Olympics, but THEY NEVER ACTUALLY SOULBOND. it's not like they're opposed to it, but it's never happened and they work well together fine without it, so why try to mess with a good thing by taking those weird bonding-inducement drugs or whatever? meh, not worth it. they know they'll be together forever anyway. (AND THEY ARE. THE END.)

Yes this is a thing that should be. Everybody thinks that they're bonded but Bill Wirtz never wanted to spend that kind of money, so. They work pretty well together anyway, they think.

4. huddling for warmth This would probably be a classic "something goes wrong in the Pegasus Galaxy" story, where the jumper breaks down on an uninhabited planet they were exploring for the McGuffin Mineral that they needed for Science Reasons, right as a huuuuuge blizzard comes in. And of course there are only two sleeping bags, and Ronon declines one because they make him feel claustrophobic, uncomfortably reminiscent of being swaddled in those hive ship spiderweb-goo prisons, so he'll just nap under his giant coat, thanks very much. Rodney, obviously, claimed one and is jealously guarding it, sort of trying to sit on it like a very awkward dragon with a squishy egg. Sheppard rolls his eyes and offers the other one to Teyla, who as usual on that show is dressed semi-impractically for no good reason, and Teyla accepts it with a dignified nod.

So they're all trying to sleep in the back of the jumper, Ronon up on one of the padded benches, the other three on the floor, Rodney in the middle, Sheppard and Teyla on either side, and Sheppard is like scooting around, twitching, kinda shivering a little. It's depriving Rodney of valuable sleep, okay, and it is of utmost importance that he is well-rested so his brain is operating at maximum capacity when the weather clears and he can go outside to fix the Engineering Problem. Rodney, as usual, has to take matters into his own hands, unzipping his sleeping back and throwing half of it over Sheppard, who of course is like, "Rodneyyyyy, I'm fine," and Rodney is like, "Shut up, Major," and then they have to snuggle up to both fit underneath. Anyway, sharing body heat is actually a pretty smart idea, okay, Rodney knows about heat transfer, he's an engineer, and they sleep very well and in the morning there are absolutely no slightly abashed glances or fond eyes at each other's bedhead, nope, none whatsoever, zero, nada, nilch. (That's a lie.)

Yay! Totally want to write this one now. John knows he should stock the jumper with an extra sleeping bag just in case, for next time. But... he just doesn't. If he's honest with himself he really is kind of hoping that there Will Be a next time.

8. cross-dressing okay, well, first of all, Nuge clearly belongs to team "yes, my underwear have lace and bows, it's awesome, why are you still standing there with your mouth hanging open, deal with it" it's Nuge. NUGE DGAF ABOUT YOUR NORMS. He just likes soft pretty things, ok?

Taylor belongs to the semi-embarrassed-but-getting-off-on-that school of going full thigh-highs with lace tops, silky tank top, tiny boyshorts, everything frilly and frothy and pastel colors. GO BIG OR GO HOME. Ebs gets really into it, which gradually makes Taylor less abashed and more into it, and they have a pretty good feedback loop of being super into each other and into each other's kinks and it's great.

Ebs also buys Taylor more things that inch up the "clothes you could wear in public" scale from lingerie to, like, a cheerleader uniform that starts as a joke but ends up not being a joke unless by "joke" you mean "haha, they definitely were too busy doing it to make it to that Halloween party." Then there's a skirt and an actual pretty dress and Taylor is like I WANT TO WEAR IT OUTSIDE BUT I AM SCARED, FEELINGS, and Ebs is like, I support you, hearteyes hearteyes. Eventually, when they're in LA, because no one in LA gives a single fuck, they go out with Taylor in a dress and then sneak back into the hotel and have the best sex ever. THE END.
